BECOME-A-CITIZNE

Black Hat

I own this kiosk. I’ve been selling fresh fish here in market for over thirty years. I work very long hours and sometimes don’t close until I’ve sold the last fish. Both of my sons are in college. I’m so proud of them.

Times have Changed
I was born a princess. My mother was queen. When my mother died I became a queen, but by then being a queen didn’t mean much. The politicians had taken over. I think that we served the people much better than the politicians.

Dancing the Morning Away
All the young people spend the night celebrating New Years. We start early in the morning and celebrate all day.
Its so much healthier to celebrate in the light of day than at night.

The Other Side

It takes everything I have to connect to Loa. But it is worth every bit of energy. So
much exists beyond this world, and without the effort I would never understand this.

Siblings
He is not my husband. He is my brother. We have taken care of one another since we were little. Now we are trying to show our grandchildren how to take care of one another. I have always been able to count on my brother.

Fire
It takes a year to grow and then harvest. Then fire eliminates everything within a couple of minutes. Fire is very powerful.

Way of Life
Our, and our ancestor’s way of life is disappearing. Instead of cooking, my granddaughter likes to buy things in the store. Instead of making clothes she buys them readymade. And instead of talking to her friends, they play on their phones all day. She is however a wonderful granddaughter.
